Renewal of Passport

Passports valid for 5 years from the date of issue can be renewed for a further period of 5 years. Total period of validity cannot exceed 10 years from the date of issue. Application for renewal of passports can be made either before or after the expiry of a passport.

Documents to be attached

Applicants are requested to submit duly completed Form ‘O’ with the following documents for the renewal of their Passports. 

1. Passport
2. Form 283 (Certificate or Evidence of Residence Status) from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Australia [Only for Permanent Residents who are eligible to apply for Australian citizenship and for those who do not hold Dual Citizenship].This Certificate should be a recent one, obtained not more than a month prior to submitting the application for passport to this Consulate General.

Note: If the applicant is a Dual Citizen and if there is no endorsement in the passport to that effect, then the original Dual Citizenship Certificate should be provided with a photocopy in place of the Form 283 (Certificate or Evidence of Residence Status)

Student Visa Holders would be required to produce their Student Identity Card and a letter from the Educational Institution at which the student is studying stating whether "the Student Visa was granted to the applicant or spouse, whether on scholarship and if so, duration and date of completion of study program under the scholarship and who is funding".

Fees for Renewal of Passport

For each year renewal                        AUD $  3.50

For 5 Years renewal                          AUD $ 17.00 

Note: Should you require your passport to be mailed back to you, an additional AUD $ 12.50 would be charged as postage, or you could send us a self-addressed prepaid Express (registered) Post Platinum envelope.

Payment should be made in Cash at the counter or by Postal Orders/ Bank Cheque drawn in favour of the "Consulate General of Sri Lanka” if sent by post. Personal or Company cheques and credit cards are not accepted

Please read ALL INSTRUCTIONS contained in the printed application forms carefully and complete same without leaving any 'blanks', as incomplete applications will be rejected.

Kindly note that it would take at least one working day to process an application for renewal of passport.
