Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year with the Sri Lankan students studying in Sydney


On 18th April 2017, Consulate General of Sri Lanka celebrated Sinhala and Tamil New year at the Consulate Office. Sri Lankan student representatives from the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, Western Sydney University and Wollongong University joined with the Consul General Lal Wickrematunge and staff for morning tea with milk rice and traditional sweetmeat to celebrate the dawn of the new year.

Consul General welcomed the students to the Consulate Office and remarked that the doors were opened for them and to all the Sri Lankans living in New South Wales for the consular services rendered by the Consulate Office and also to contact the Consulate for any assistance they need as students who are studying overseas.

The country is proud of the talent of the dynamic Sri Lankan youth studying abroad and one day their expertise will be required towards the development of the country.

Consul General praised the students for maintaining the Sri Lankan cultural values while they study in a foreign environment.

Student representatives briefed the Consul General about the programmes conducted by the Sri Lankan Student Societies, namely the Macquarie University Sri Lankan Student Society, UNSW Sri Lankan Society, Sri Lankan Student's Society of University of Wollongong.

Consul General informed that the Consulate will be creating a network of Sri Lankan students in NSW and Queensland and will engage them in the future events.
